REM Surface Engineering

Medical

The medical device industry is a market with no room for anything less than the highest quality and the most reliable results; after all, lives can be at stake. Medically implanted devices often have complex geometries and are composed of titanium and other super alloys, making them exceptionally difficult to hand or electropolish. Smooth surfaces are desired for corrosion resistance, sterility and reduced wear. However, traditional processing techniques fall short in achieving the desired surface finish. The isotropic surface achieved by our patented Isotropic Superfinish Process (ISF®) offers these critical advantages to the medical industry.

The ISF Process produces proven results that contribute to the life cycle of medical devices. These ultimately effect patient outcomes and quality of life. REM can process titanium and other super alloys to produce a low Ra surface (Ra<2 µin.) if needed. The ISF Process also produces an extremely consistent surface, far superior to hand buffing. Additionally, the process enhances the parts sterility by removing surface crevices to eliminate gathering points for bacteria. Lastly, the ISF Process preserves critical part geometries, which is paramount for many of these components.
