IMTS 2024
Join REM’s own Dr. Agustin Diaz at the Formnext Stage at IMTS Chicago on Monday, Sept 9, 2:00 PM – 2:30 PM as he participates in the following panel.
Manufacturing and Design for Space Applications
Manufacturing and design for space exploration applications aim to enable propulsion systems, on-demand fabrication, repair, and recycling capabilities for critical systems, habitats, and mission logistics and maintenance during long-duration space missions. These capabilities can reduce launch mass, risk, and cost, as well as increase flexibility and sustainability for exploration missions beyond low Earth orbit. Some of the technologies and processes that are being developed or investigated for in-space manufacturing and design include:
- Additive manufacturing (3D printing) of various materials such as metals, polymers, composites, and regolith
- Robotic construction systems that can autonomously build landing pads, roads, and other infrastructure on the lunar or Martian surface
- Data-driven design space exploration and exploitation that can optimize the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of space systems
