Materials Science & Technology 2016 (MS&T)

Materials Science & Technology 2016 (MS&T 2016)  brings together scientists, engineers, students, suppliers and more to discuss current research and technical applications, and to shape the future of materials science and technology.  REM and our partners are proud to be presenting our latest technical offering, “Additive Manufacturing of Metals: Microstructure, Material Properties, and Product Performance.”

Abstract: The first objective of this research was to identify the mechanical properties HIPed Ti6Al4V fabricated by EBM in three conditions: as-deposited, surface treated using the Extreme ISF® Process, and machined. A statistical analysis shows that the parts treated with the extreme ISF® show the best performance, while the machined part and the as-deposited parts do not exhibit a significant performance difference in most of the cases. The second objective studied in this research was a study to identify variations in mechanical properties due to the location of specimens within the fabrication envelope. Overall, the results obtained indicate a consistency of mechanical properties for parts fabricated using the EBM process regardless of location.
