The Connecticut Quality Improvement Award’s Innovation Gold Award was presented to REM Surface Engineering, “For their breakthrough surface finishing technology, the Rapid ISF® Process.” REM’s Rapid ISF Process allows Automotive Ring and Pinion Gears to be Isotropically Superfinished in four to ten minute cycle times while producing an exceptionally smooth, uniquely textured ISF® Surface with performance benefits including increases in fuel efficiency, power density allowable and component lifetime.

The Connecticut Quality Improvement Award’s (CQIA) mission is, “Promoting and recognizing performance, excellence, and innovation in Connecticut organizations.” The CQIA Partnership, Inc. was the first state-level quality award using the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for Performance Excellence and was founded in 1986. The annual award ceremony took place on June 12, 2013.

REM Vice President, Justin Michaud, received the award on REM’s behalf: “This award is recognition of the hard work and efforts of many of REM’s Sales and Research employees; it is the culmination of years of work in the effort towards providing the Automotive Industry an optimized process to meet their short cycle time, low work-in-process inventory demands while also enabling access to the revolutionary ISF Surface and its myriad of performance benefits. As today’s consumer is continuing to demand higher levels of fuel efficiency without giving up overall performance, the Rapid ISF Process will play a key role in allowing Automotive Manufacturers to meet this demand.”
