FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Brenham, Texas – REM Surface Engineering is proud to announce our collaborative partnership with MTU Aero Engines to support their work in serial production of highly loaded aviation engine components through our Extreme ISF(r) Chemical Polishing technology, primarily focused on Iron-Nickel super alloys.

MTU Aero Engines, Germany’s leading aero engine manufacturer and a critical global supplier has chosen REM’s Extreme ISF(r) Chemical Polishing technology after an extensive search for a way to improve the surface of additively produced components with complex geometries.

“Many years we were searching for a surface finish process giving us full design freedom in order to use the possibilities of AM”, says, Dr. Jürgen Kraus, Director AM at MTU in Munich. He continues: “In 2020 we got in contact with REM and very soon it was clear for us that we have found a game changer. By avoiding abrasive particles, it guarantees a nearly constant removal over the whole component. Adherent particles typical of AM parts are removed safely, roughness is distinctly improved and very important for aviation: the surface topology is suited for FPI.

“Working with MTU is a fantastic milestone for REM as we bring our technologies across the Atlantic to our European customers. MTU’s goals firmly align with REM’s mission and core values and it is an honour to be able to support their efforts in this important area,” says Justin Michaud, CEO at REM Surface Engineering.

“This is a great opportunity for REM to continue to develop and expand our solutions with a market leader like MTU. Our deep and detailed partnership has enabled both parties to exploit the opportunities of our work in the novel additive field and has been an exemplary partnership”, says Martin McCormick, Manager EU Sales at REM Surface Engineering.
