REM Surface Engineering Supports NASA’s Next Generation Rocket Propulsion Initiative

Brenham, Texas – REM Surface Engineering is proud to be a supporting vendor of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in their Rapid and Analysis Manufacturing Propulsion Technology or RAMPT project which aims to enable next-generation rocket propulsion technology utilizing 3D printed rocket engine parts utilizing high-strength iron-nickel superalloy.

RAMPT is an initiative under NASA’s Game Changing Development Program and the Space Technology Mission Directorate targeting the advancement of production methods to reduce overall manufacturing cost, reduce production time, and improve performance of regeneratively cooled thrust-chamber assemblies. The 7K Thrust-Chamber assembly is an example of the actualization of this RAMPT chamber concept featuring both a REM processed GrCOP-42 Combustion Chamber and a NASA HR-1 Thrust Nozzle. The processing technology (REM’s Extreme ISF® Process) for these applications has been developed in conjunction with REM’s NASA Phase II SBIR award.  This technology can be applied to all component surfaces, including the hotwall and cooling channels to reduce roughness, remove heat treatment scale, and improve component performance.
